Legendary British Rock Punk Band "The Blockheads" have been added to the line-up for the Rory Gallagher International Tribute Festival 2016 that takes place in Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal, Ireland between the 2nd and 5th June 2016. This hugely internationally acclaimed band have been together since 1977, and despite losing frontman Ian Dury in 2000, "The Blockheads" have continued to record and tour. They are best known for their hit singles, recorded with Dury, "Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick", "Sex And Drugs And Rock And Roll", "What A Waste" and "Reasons To Be Cheerful Part 3". This will be "The Blockheads" only performance in Ireland in 2016 and indeed its quite some time since the band appeared in Ireland.

Rory Gallagher International Tribute Festival - Big Top Early Bird Tickets for all 3 Nights are now on sale at €60 for all 3 Nights - http://www.rorygallagherfestival.com/tickets.html
Individual Nightly Tickets will be available to purchase on the day of the Festival Big Top Concerts (or at the entrance) at the Festival Office in Ballyshannon on Friday, Saturday & Sunday - 2nd to 5th June 2016

"The Blockheads" will appear at the Rory Gallagher Festival Big Top on Sunday 5th June 2016 and it promises to be quite a night as on the same bill will be "Band of Friends" that includes Rory Gallaqher's former band members Gerry McAvoy and Ted McKenna with superb Dutch Guitarist Marcel Scherpenzeel. Chairperson of the Rory Gallagher Festival Barry O'Neill said "its great news that The Blockheads will be coming to Ballyshannon to be part of the Rory Gallagher Festival. This band is comprised of brilliant musicians from Norman Watt-Roy on bass to Guitarists Chaz Jankel and John Turnbull. We still have several more significant acts to announce in the coming weeks, but the Sunday 5th June at the Festival Big Top is shaping up nicely with "Band of Friends" and "The Blockheads", its going to be a night to look forward to. Watch this space, we have more announcements to follow".

THE BLOCKHEADS still touring, still recording, and still leaving the punters in a sweat-soaked pile with their amazing live show some 40 years after evolving from pub-rock pioneers back in the mid-1970s. Lead Singer Derek ‘The Draw’ Hussey has been doing the impossible: Filling the new boots of the late, great Ian Dury for the past 15 years, since the untimely demise of the poet laureate of Plaistow in 2000. Derek was Dury’s best mate and minder for many years and has the same gruff Essex tones and gift for wordplay that made The Blockheads’ lyrics so uniquely entertaining. The veteran band, who tear the roof off every venue with more energy and musical nift than many players half their age, are in the process of making the definitive documentary on the history of this quite brilliant institution, entitled "Beyond the Call of Dury".
