Ballyshannon is located in County Donegal in the North West of Ireland. Ballyshannon is Ireland's oldest town and is where Rory Gallagher was born on 2nd March 1948 at the appropriately named Rock Hospital, which remains very much part of Ballyshannon today. 

Rory Gallagher International Tribute Festival takes place annually in the town to celebrate the life and music of the Late Rory Gallagher. In 2010 a life sized bronze statue of Rory Gallagher was unveiled in Ballyshannon Town Centre by members of the extended Gallagher Family in the presence of the Mayor of County Donegal and the Lord Mayor of Cork. Rory Gallagher International Tribute Festival was established in 2002 and since then the Festival has become the biggest event annually for Rory's fans. In excess of 10,000 fans / visitors attend Rory Gallagher Festival each year in Ballyshannon. Among the acts / musicians to have performed at the Festival over the years include Rory Gallagher's Band Members - Gerry McAvoy, Brendan O'Neill, Lou Martin (RIP), Ted McKenna, Mark Feltham - in bands such as "Band of Friends" and "Nine Below Zero".
