Rory’s Rock ‘n Stroll on the Wild Atlantic Way has been launched by the Rory Gallagher Festival in Ballyshannon. It is a concept of a posted walk that retraces the footprint of Rory Gallagher’s Family in the town. This will become an all-year walking tour within Ballyshannon on the Wild Atlantic Way, visiting the landmarks and stories of the Gallagher’s short but significant time in Ballyshannon.
It is also the culmination of 20 years work by the Chairperson and Founder of the Rory Gallagher Festival - Barry O'Neill, having developed several celebrated Rory landmarks in Ballyshannon including the Rory Gallagher life-sized bronze statue. With continued valued support from Failte Ireland, Wild Atlantic Way, Donegal County Council, we will have this format developed in a guided walking tour in March 2023.
Rory’s Rock ‘n Stroll on the Wild Atlantic Way will enhance further the visitor experience not just during the Rory Gallagher International Tribute Festival but 12 months of the year. Initially Rory’s Rock ‘n Stroll will be a self-guided tour with brochure format guide with unique signage at each of the 6 key locations on the tour. It is being developed so that the tour can be undertaken by foot, bike or car. It will be the long-term legacy of the Festival and will remain outside core Festival time.
